I encourage you to use reverse osmosis water filtration in order to remove all contaminants from your drinking water, including chlorine and fluoride.

Chlorine is highly corrosive to the human body.

Fluoride is a carcinogenic neurotoxin that causes mental lethargy.

The outputted, filtered water that reverse osmosis water filtration produces tastes fantastic.

I encourage you to also use reverse osmosis water filtration in order to remove all contaminants from your cats’ and dogs’ drinking water, including chlorine, which is highly corrosive to your cats’ and dogs’ bodies, and fluoride, which is a carcinogenic neurotoxin.

Since reverse osmosis water filtration is a very thorough form of water filtration, it takes approximately 7 minutes for reverse osmosis water filtration to produce 1 litre (quart) of water and approximately 70 minutes to produce 10 litres (quarts) of water. For this reason, it is necessary to leave the reverse osmosis water filtration running for at least 70 minutes at a time and to deposit the outputted, filtered water into a suitably-sized plastic water container, such as 10 litres (quarts) in volume or even 30 litres (quarts) in volume, so that it is ready to be used when needed.

This is the outstanding portable reverse osmosis water filter ($218) that I use:

You can purchase a lockable steel cabinet from IKEA to put the portable reverse osmosis water filter and the 10 litre to 30 litre water container in ($110).

This is the comparable, under-sink reverse osmosis water filter ($550):

These are the pre and post filter cartridges that need to be changed every six months ($61.50):

If you were to purchase the portable reverse osmosis water filter above for $199, a 10 litre to 30 litre water container for up to $40, the lockable steel cabinet above for $110 and the replacement pre and post filter cartridges above after six months of use for $55, assuming you produce 20 litres of reverse osmosis filtered water per day, the cost per litre of the reverse osmosis filtered water that you produce in your first year of using the reverse osmosis water filter would be $404 / 7,300 which equals $0.055 or 5.5 cents.

With the additional cost of two sets of pre and post filter cartridges after 12 months of use and 18 months of use for $110 in total, the cost per litre of the reverse osmosis filtered water that you produce in your first two years of using the reverse osmosis water filter would be $514 / 14,600 which equals $0.035 or 3.5 cents.

The post filter cartridge ensures that the pH value of the outputted, filtered water is greater than seven (7) so that it is alkaline and not acidic. Since the reverse osmosis water filtration process strips the water of all dissolved elements, it is prone to producing slightly acidic water if a post filter cartridge is not used to increase the pH of the water. Slightly acidic water will leach nutrients from bones in the human body after it is ingested, which nutrients need to be replaced with adequate nutrition. It is therefore better not to ingest slightly acidic water.

Unfiltered tap water is presumably more acidic than slightly acidic since it contains so much chlorine.

Why is reverse osmosis filtered water slightly acidic?

It is important to cook food with the outputted, filtered water, since cooking food with tap water results in the contaminants in the tap water being absorbed into the food that is being cooked. These contaminants are then ingested into the body when the food is eaten.

(It is obviously important to avoid using aluminium cookware, since aluminium from the cookware leaches into the water being used to cook the food, such as by steaming or boiling, and then leaches into the food being cooked. There are strong links between the ingestion of aluminium and the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.)

Filter Systems Australia, which sells the products listed above, is an outstanding business which provides excellent customer service and makes every effort to satisfy its customers.

Filter Systems Australia is based on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

Postscript:

Harder, less flexible, high-pressure 1/4″ tubing is used up to the input to the reverse osmosis membrane. Softer, more flexible, low-pressure 1/4″ tubing is used from two outputs from the reverse osmosis membrane onwards, both for the reverse osmosis filtered water which is outputted and for the waste water which is outputted.

Over time, the insides of the 1/4″ tubing, both high-pressure and low-pressure, become coated with contaminants from the water so that it is best to replace the 1/4″ tubing with new 1/4″ tubing.

It is well worth obtaining a supply of at least 5 metres of harder, less flexible, high-pressure 1/4″ tubing as stock for the future. It is well worth obtaining a supply of at least 5 metres of softer, more flexible, low-pressure 1/4″ tubing as stock for the future.

It is well worth obtaining a 1/4″ tube cutter for $21 in order to quickly and easily cut the 1/4″ tubing as close to square as possible.
